Mentoring less experienced staff OR just staff
In 2010, I had to teach a module that focuses on the Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 to 6) with a staff member that teaches primarily in the Senior Phase (Gr 7 to 9) and FET Phase (Gr 10 to 12). As my experience and strength is in the Intermediate Phase, the staff member asked me for advice and we had several meetings about the module. He mentioned to me that after this module, he was in a much better position to even assist his son in the primary school, as this module focuses on the method of mathematics in the primary school.
I was also asked by a senior staff member to assist him with the development and implementation of his SOS Project by using ICT as a Social Network tool. I have assisted him with the setup and will be assisting him if he requires more assistance. I have introduced Darrylin Bradley to the WIKI idea, pima403.wikispaces.com. Time will tell whether she implements it. She seems very enthusiastic about the development.
Currently as HOD and HOP, I am assisting staff members with various aspects pertaining to the PGCE.
I also assist Me Joy Turyangenda by being a sound board for her PhD study.
I have been the designated mentor of one staff member who joined the then NMMU in 2016.
I have also been the non-designated mentor to a new staff member who approached me on the first day when he joined the Faculty of Education to be his mentor. I have assisted this staff member in all possible ways and he has been very appreciative of my assistance.
